A trail runner built the barefoot way: the heel and the forefoot sit at the same height, the sole bends in the hand, and the rubber underneath is cut for loose dirt rather than for the treadmill. The toe box is wide enough that the foot can splay when it lands, which is what keeps a long descent from ending in bruised toenails. Dark Grey is the quiet option: it hides dirt about as well as black and reads less severe with everyday clothes.

Grip before cushioning

The outsole is the part of a barefoot trail shoe that has to work. Rubber lugs bite into packed dirt and wet rock, and because there is no foam column between you and the ground, the ankle reads the surface early enough to react to it.

A toe box with somewhere to go

Feet lengthen and widen under load, and on a descent they slide forward. The wide toe box is the room that movement needs; take it away and the same run ends with the toes pressed against the front of the shoe.
