Three minutes with a sheet of paper
Barefoot shoes are sized by the foot inside them, not by the shoe you wore last.
Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe and measure from the wall to that mark. Do it late in the day — feet spread by a few millimetres over the course of one, and a shoe fitted at breakfast can feel short by evening.
Measure both feet. Nearly everyone has one longer than the other, and the shoe has to fit the longer one.
Add roughly 10–12 mm to your longest measurement and compare that number with the insole length given on the product page. That gap is not slack: it is the space toes need to splay and the foot needs to lengthen when it takes your weight, which is the entire reason for a wide toe box.
Land between two sizes and the larger one is usually right, particularly in the trail line, where descents push the foot forward against the front of the shoe.
Heel and midfoot. Toes stay free to spread; the back of the shoe should not lift as you walk. If your heel slides up and out, the shoe is too big however roomy the toes feel.
Thin toe socks add almost nothing. Thick wool socks can swallow most of a half size. Measure in what you actually intend to wear, and where that changes with the season, size for the thicker sock.
| Collection | Fit notes |
|---|---|
| Barefoot shoes | Widest toe box, zero drop, thin sole. Order to your measurement plus room. |
| Trail runners | Wide box with a more secure midfoot. Leave the full 12 mm for downhills. |
| Athletic sneakers | Closest to a conventional last. Between sizes, take the smaller one. |
| Slides & recovery | Generous by design. The foot should sit inside the footbed, not overhang it. |
| Sandals & flip flops | Straps do the holding. Match footbed length to your foot plus a few millimetres. |
Expect the number to move. Feet that spent years in a narrow tapered shoe often measure wider than their owner assumes, and the first honest measurement is regularly a surprise. Trust the tape, not the size printed inside your old trainers.
